Is PSA testing enough for a fair and just system of prostate cancer detection?
Is PSA testing enough for a fair and just system of prostate cancer detection?
PSA testing is not a definitive test for prostate cancer! Relying on PSA testing via blood tests will miss men who have a low PSA level, but already have advanced prostate cancer. The policy position by the Prostate Cancer Foundation to NOT advocate for digital rectal exams will intentionally condemn men to death by prostate cancer!
Most people who have health issues have to suffer or contend with invasive medical physical examinations. Even blood tests and vaccinations are invasive. And what about dentists sticking their hands and instruments into your gob?
A policy that treats men as if they could not possibly be convinced to have simple digital rectal exams is a cop out and treats men as whimps!

Thanks for your comment. Medicine has come a long way in recent years, with much greater emphasis on tools such as MRI in the early detection of prostate cancer, and less reliance on tests such as the DRE, which can be problematic.
The new guidelines provide specific recommendations to ensure men at risk of prostate cancer have access to MRI imaging, which is the most effective way of identifying suspicious lesions. Itโs also important to understand that GPs are not trained to perform DREs, and this lack of training creates a high risk of error and misdiagnosis.
We have one message for you โ every man is different, and should be provided with an individualised approach to testing for prostate cancer.
