4 years after radiation treatment.

4 years after radiation treatment.

I just had my fourth yearly checkup with my radiation oncologist. I feel very grateful that my treatment has been so successful. The doctor said I was a textbook case. My PSA is now 0.19. Exactly where it should be after 4 years since my radiation treatment.

The decision on whether to have the operation or the radiation was such a stressful one. I had localised prostate cancer. At the time my urologist was very supportive of me exploring having radiation rather than the operation. When I saw the radiation oncologist he said to me the success rate of either treatment was 95%. After weighing up all the side effects of each treatment I went with radiation. Iโ€™m so happy that everything went perfectly. If anyone wants to ask me any questions, please do. Iโ€™ll check in here regularly and reply.

Hi

Jus been diagnosed with level 9 cancer and trying to weigh up prostrate surgery or radiation therapy. The problem that I face is that my Dad had radiation therapy for his prostrate cancer back in 2002 and although they managed to eliminate the cancer, the side effects have been extensively damaging. i.e. bowel and bladder. Research via the Cancer Council has helped tremendously and YES there has been significant developments in radiation therapy, but would be interested to hear if you have sufferred any side effects (short or long term)?

My Dad is still alive and is 95, but quality of life is not good.

Regards

Nigel

5 Years after radiation treatment.

Radiation oncologist did not want to see me from the 4 year inspection. I get 6 monthly blood tests. The last PSA was 0.01, unfortunately for my love life my testosterone was also very low. My GP suggested that we leave that where it is, just to be on the safe side. I am now 81 and still working.
