Are Biopsies Necessary?

My PSMA-PET scan shows a 90-95% chance of the tumour detected being malignant. it is 100% contained within the gland. My Uro wants to do a biopsy to get a Gleason Score before acting. I prefer immediate tumour, or prostate, removal without a biopsy.

Hi Busby48589,

Thanks for your post.

We would recommend speaking with your specialist about this.

It is not common practice to commence prostate cancer treatment without a biopsy.

A biopsy is the only definitive way to diagnose prostate cancer and helps determine how aggressive the cancer may be, guiding treatment decisions.

If you need support, please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to our Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse Telephone service.

You can reach us on 1800 22 00 99 (ask to speak to a nurse), or follow the link to request a call back https://www.prostate.org.au/nursing-support/ and weโ€™ll get back to you. Weโ€™re here to help.

Kind regards,
