Nanoknife
Nanoknife
Hola, About a month ago I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer (Gleason 8, Grade 4) confined to the prostate based on a biopsey and later confirmed based on PSWA – PET CT scan 3 weeks later. Interestingly, I also have an enlarged prostate that effectively squeezes my urethra to prevent me from fully emptying my bladder (i.e., leaving ~37% urine in my bladder after unrinating). Not optimal. So, there are two urological concerns: prostate cancer and enlarged prostate. I live in Perth WA and my urologist is telling me I’m a reasonable/good candidate for focal treatment using Nanoknife or Irreversible Electoportion (IRE). As part of the Nanoknife treatment procedure, the urologist is advocating to remove a thin layer if urethra conduit thereby increasing the inner-diametre of the urethra that is being compressed by the enlarged prostate. A new urethra membrane will grow over the removed tissue, a healing process that will require a week or so. It’s expected that hospitalisation for 2-3 days immediately following the Nanoknife and urethra-boring procedures will be required. For reference, my prostate cancer is confined to one area and is no larger than 3mm. This overall treatment process is more appealing compared to a prostatectomy. BTW, I’m fine with being disciplined enough for systematic PSA, MRI/PSMA, and biospeys to keep this prostate demon in check.
