Struggling to support my post-prostatectomy partner
Struggling to support my post-prostatectomy partner
Evening, all. My partner had a radical prostatectomy in February 2026, just shy of age 50. The surgery has been a success: full negative margins, subsequent PSAs have been 0.01, 0.01, and 0.02. But the emotional impact remains profound. He is depressed much of the time, always tired, moody and feels despair at “the loss of my manhood”. I am trying to be helpful and encourage him to make use of this excellent website and associated support, but he is resistant. I am struggling to do the right things and avoid inadvertently doing the wrong things (not easy, given his understandable sensitivity and anxiety). I will make contact myself with the local support group (in the Bega Valley) to see what they say, but posting this in case others are in a similar position. TP
