Got Hubby’s results post prostatectomy, don’t look good

My husband had no symptoms, PSA of 6.4 (he’s 72) did further testing “just to see”, really unlikely anything is wrong; the ultrasound “surprised” our GP, needed further testing… MRI showed RAD5, Prostate not enlarged, biopsy indicated. Biopsy showed Gleason 9, cancer in 15 of 16 cores. PET Scan shows no evidence of “escape” from prostate capsule, no metastasis. The surgeon tells us surgery is “best” as it is still confined to the capsule

Had RP on 13/8; histology came back today: He has high-grade Gleason 9 disease with bilateral seminal vesicles invasion and positive surgical margins “The tumour is no longer prostate confined, with capsule penetration posteriorly, invasion into periprostatic fat and autonomic nerves, and invasion into both left and right seminal vesicles. Bladder neck invasion: negative. Lymphovascular invasion: Positive. Margins positive multifocal posterior. Pathologic stage T3b”

It sounds BAD

It also sounds like sitting in discomfort from surgery, with a catheter not coming out until Friday and the inevitable incontinence afterwards, that he was sold a pup. All this recovery from surgery that HASN’T got rid of the cancer, as it was suggested surgery would

Now we’re looking down the barrel of radiotherapy anyway… once his body is recovered “enough” to tolerate it

It’s too much

Should we just give up?

It feels like he’s just facing years of really unpleasant treatment, for WHAT???? It’ll still be there, and he’ll be even more diminished than he is now
